APRIL 2011– Anthony Road Wine Co. has added four medals to its winning streak in the month of April, capturing two Gold Medals and two other prizes at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition in San Bernardino, Calif.

The 2008 Tierce Riesling, which is a collaboration of the winemakers at Anthony Road, Fox Run Vineyards and Red Newt Wine Cellars, and Anthony Road’s 2008 Vignoles Trockenbeerenboth received Gold Medals at the California competition, held on April 20 and 21.

Anthony Road Wine Co. is located off Route 14, about 10 miles south of Geneva on the west side of Seneca Lake. Fox Run and Red Newt are also Seneca Lake wineries. The winning winemakers for the Tierce are Johannes Reinhardt of Anthony Road, Peter Bell of Fox Run and David Whiting of Red Newt.

Anthony Road also won a Silver Medal for its 2009 Semi-Dry Riesling and a Bronze Medal for the winery’s 2009 Semi-Sweet Riesling in the Pacific Rim event.

The winery’s success in the international competition came less than two weeks after Anthony Road’s 2009 Dry Riesling received a Gold Medal at the Riesling du monde in Strasbourg, France.

This was the second straight year that Anthony Road received medals at the Riesling du monde. In 2010, the winery’s 2008 Martini-Reinhardt Trockenbeerenauslese won a Trophy of Excellence, or “Trophee d’Excellence,” the highest award given in the competition, and the winery’s 2008 Dry Riesling won a Gold Medal.

A total of 443 Rieslings were entered in the French competition, including wines from 18 nations, including France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Norway and Russia. The event, held April 9 through 11, had a total of 80 judges tasting the entries. Also entered were 253 Pinot Gris wines in the Pinot Gris du monde and 275 Gewurztraminers in the Gewurztraminer du monde. Both competitions were held along with the Riesling du monde.

The next Riesling du monde will be held Strasbourg on April 14 through 16, 2012.
